Last night was a very proud moment for me. My son’s band, “The Blank Canvas” performed their very first concert last night at the Murray Hill Theater in Jacksonville, Florida. They opened up for Nashville recording artist Benjamin Dunn & The Animal Orchestra. Now, to understand why this was significant, let me explain. This isn’t my son’s first performance. Brian has been playing drums in different groups since he was about 10 (now 15). He’s been on some big stages. What made this night different was that he and his band mates put this together all on their own. They wrote some really great tunes. Tunes with depth and complexity. They practiced hard. They line up the gig and marketed the show. There was a fairly large group of fans that came out to see them play.
For the most part, I was hearing their songs for the first time. It was awesome! There is one song that they have on youtube called, “Float Away“, when they played that, the whole audience sang along. The audience was almost as loud as they were! These guys already had a following at their very first show. I was so impressed!
So… here’s The Blank Canvas: Lizzie Brown, Carson Hall, Taylor Neal, and Brian Lester. Congratulations to a successful first gig!
